Fundamentals of Business Economics

This subject focusses on the economic and operating context of business and how the factors of competition, the behaviour of financial markets and government economic policy can influence an organisation.

It also deals with the information available to assist management in evaluating and forecasting the behaviour of consumers, markets and the economy in general.

Students will gain an understanding of the areas of economic activity relevant to an organisation’s decisions and, within this context, the numerical techniques to support such decisions.

Syllabus structure

The syllabus comprises the following topics and weightings:

  • A. Macroeconomic and Institutional Context of Business (25%)
  • B. Microeconomics and Organisational Context of Business (30%)
  • C. Informational Context of Business (20%)
  • D. Financial Context of Business (25%)

The Exams

Objective Test - Computer Based Exams
•    On demand computer based exams 
•    Multiple choice and objective questions
•    Pass mark is 50%
•    Duration 2 hours

Objective Tests are comprised of a range of items including short multiple choice questions, number entry questions, drag and drop questions and other formats. They test all component learning outcomes across the whole subject.

Course Information

Each CIMA Certificate classroom course will comprise an integrated teaching and revision phase culminating in a timed mock exam. It will be offered as either an evening or a weekend course or a combination.

All course materials will be provided, including Textbook, Revision Kit, Passcards and Vale FT course notes.
